ICT has significance to most things in modern life. It is not surprising that it has a major role to play in the National Curriculum. Pupils have two hours of Information and Communication Technology timetabled per week.
Listed below is a summary of ways ICT is taught at FAMAKS.

(1)Access to information has been greatly increased through learning software such as Microsoft Encarta, Collins Primary, Broadband Internet and the Learning Platform.

(2) ICT also provides the opportunity for children to communicate with others and to share information. Through the Learning Platform blogs, podcasts, Wikis, VLEs, personal web space and forums, children can access the views of others and play a role in society.

(3) All this remains positive along with e-safety. The children are educated by being made aware of the need for a special sort of etiquette, netiquette, when using these online tools.

The Learning Platform
This is a first in primary schools in Nigeria, the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), or learning platform, is a software system designed to provide and support virtual learning in an educationally beneficial way. The Learning platforms provide an area for school pupils to collaborate, communicate and engage in learning, at their own pace and across their entire school community. This helps to extend learning outside school, anytime and anywhere. Through the combination of interactive tools and educational content, an integrated learning environment is provided.

What can a learning platform be used for?

Everything! DB Primary can be incorporated in to as much or as little of school life as you want.

• Upload lesson plans, projects and assignments
• Set and mark homework
• Manage timetables
• Set up virtual classrooms
• Parents can be kept aware of important school events, involved with PTA groups and monitor children interaction with each other
• Administrators can easily enable communications within the school and beyond, share information and increase communication with parents
